LEWISTON – Androscoggin Home Care & Hospice has scheduled the next session of training for volunteers who wish to visit hospice patients to begin on Tuesday, January 10, and there’s still space available for those who wish to become a volunteer. Volunteer opportunities are available across the agency’s service area which includes all of Androscoggin, Franklin and Oxford Counties, Northern Cumberland County and parts of Kennebec, Sagadahoc and Somerset Counties.
The hospice volunteer training program spans 20 hours, with six half-day sessions over three weeks. The training will enable volunteers to provide companionship to hospice patients who reside in their own homes, in nursing facilities or at our Hospice House in Auburn or the Togus Veterans Affairs hospital in Augusta. Along with those who plan to visit hospice patients, volunteers may also choose to assist in other ways, such as providing transportation to medical appointments or running errands for groceries or medication.
Androscoggin Home Care & Hospice is seeking volunteers who can commit to at least two hours per week for the next year to serve as hospice volunteers. Military veterans are also needed to support AHCH’s Veteran to Veteran program, which includes options for special recognition of military service when requested.
AHCH provides training, a background check and TB testing at no cost to volunteers. If interested in volunteering, please call 795-9580 or 1-800-482-7412, extension 1280, to schedule a brief phone conversation to discuss your interests. If it looks like this opportunity is a good fit, we will invite you to attend the upcoming training.
