LEWISTON – Mom’s Smokin’ Pumpkin Soup, Roasted Butternut Squash Soup and Jen’s Meaty Chili are just a few of the tasty offerings that can be sampled at the third annual Soup, Chili and Chowder Challenge to benefit patient care at Androscoggin Home Care & Hospice’s Hospice House.
The event takes place from 4 to 7 p.m. at Baxter Brewing Company on Saturday, Nov. 5. Tickets purchased in advance cost $10 for adults and $5 for children ages 4-12. Children under age 4 are admitted at no charge. Tickets are available at Baxter Brewing, 130 Mill Street, Lewiston; Androscoggin Home Care & Hospice, 15 Strawberry Avenue, Lewiston; and the Hospice House, 236 Stetson Road in Auburn. Tickets will also be available at the event but cost $2 more. Each adult ticket comes with two coupons for a dollar off a pint of beer.
Those who attend will be able to sample all of the soups, chowders and chilis entered by talented cooks who are competing for prizes and bragging rights. Celebrity judges will determine the Judges’ Favorite award winner, while other eventgoers will cast their votes to decide the People’s Choice winner.
All recipes will be included in a cookbook which will be available for $3. In addition, there will be a door prize and a 50-50 raffle. The event is organized annually by the Dream Team, one of several groups that raises money during the year and makes its final donation at AHCH’s annual Hospice House 5K and Remembrance Walks. These walks will take place May 7, 2017 in Farmington and May 21, 2017 in Auburn. More information on those events will be available in January.
